The Annúminas Project
The Annúminas Project was my first multimedia project, inspired by the Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's other works.
The Project is named after the lost city of the kingdom of Arnor. Both Dúnadain are garbed head to toe in cotton/wool cloaks, napped hide dusters, goatskin jerkins, and cotton/silk shirts underneath.
The male Dúnadan garb, armoring and arms drew heavily from Ngila Dickson's work on Aragorn's costume from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, so much so that I went into great detail in sourcing the hide from New Zealand and tooling the correct leather pattern for the bracers and belt. The quiver is black cowhide, with leather lacing holding it together and a rough canvas arrow-bag.
The female Dúnadan as a much more utilitarian outfit, with adjustable buckles replacing lace ties wherever possible; a hard ring-belt with Elven patterning, and a handful of hidden knives throughout her person. I drew inspiration from Alan Lee and John Howe's illustrations done for the books and films, in order to create a much more Tolkien-centric interpretation of the Rangers of the North. The quiver is black garment sheepskin, with a particle board inner sleeve/tube to give greater structure.
Both swords are full-tang, tool-steel weapons. The self-bows were fashioned from a composite of synthetic material and wood, a light-draw 20# stick bow capable of firing the 28" arrows, tipped with a rubber broadhead cast from a mold I took of an old hunting tip.
Tribute was paid to the Lord of the Rings film trilogy as best we could, adhering as close to the original cinematography and color grading themes used by Peter Jackson and his crew.
